What has gotten into me

I woke up before seven this morning. I had put the alarm on for eight so that I could go do my laundry but since I woke up at seven I just took my washing down then instead. So now I am finished and can relax until I go to Uni later.
But I still don't know what has gotten into me. I think it is excitement of going home in just 2 days. Yup, two days. The day after tomorrow.
I am going shopping today for the last time (I say) before I go home.
Desperate Housewifes are on tonight and then tomorrow Árdís will go home. Lucky she, going tomorrow but I have to wait for the Day after Tomorrow. But I am just soooo excited, looking forward to seeing all my friends and family. It is going to be sooo nice.

Shopping mad

This is sooo me. I am injured, can hardly walk, but just give me some painkillers and I am off shopping. The funny thing was that I went to sleep last night at one o'clock am, not bad, then the next thing I know it is twelve noon. I got a shock, I imediately checked my phone because Árdís and I had planned to go shopping today, which in the end we did. Got into the city center at one and had some lunch. Then we hit the stores and shopped till we dropped, or at least I. I could hardly walk when I came back to my room, and the clock showed that it was nearly six o'clock.
My foot is now really swollen and hurting but I am hoping that a good nights rest will get the swelling down for tomorrows school.

I had a wee accident - long story

Yup, you know knowledge is best gained through experience. I took a wee misstep and my ankle went all kablooey and pain shot through to my knee as well. All in my famous left leg. I happened just after 2 o'clock and I got home around 2:30, because I first had to take care of Accommodation matters. Then I had to walk all the way down to Byres road and it hurt like hell because it is a very steep way down. Took a taxi home (which had this in the window; Cab drivers: proof that practice doesn't make perfect!, which I kind of find funny. I am easily amused). Took Ibuprofen 400 mg and felt fine, so I went to meet my friend Laura, had nice time had coke and carrot cake and then went back home. After that everything went from bad to worse.
Took more painkillers, at seven o'clock. Ordered pizza for me and Dee although I didn't have much appetite. Came back in and tried to put cold on my ankle didn't work, put some inflamatory reduction cream ... didn't work, took 2 tablets of 500 mg Panadol and at 10 o'clock it hadn't started to work. Mom phoned and I told her what had happened, and she basically told me to get my ass to an E.R. to get THE ANKLE checked out (not my ass).
I asked Dee what I should do and he was certain I should have it checked out and offered to phone for a cab. I contacted Árdísi and asked if she was busy and if she wanted to accompany me, Dee couldn't because he was on duty. So we went to the Accident and Emergency thingy at Western Infirmary and that is a new adventure.

We entered the A n' E and was registered there and then told to just sit and wait for my name to be called. Árdís wanted to be sure I would take her in with me when I was called, and I definitely wasn't going to leave her out there alone. There were two police officers at the A n' E and of course it wouldn't be an E.R. if there wasn't a drunk person there as well.
It really felt like stepping into a film studio, I really felt like Mr. Bean coming into a British Hospital, almost like cut from a medical scene some thirty of fourty years before. And not as clean as you would like a hospital to be I must say.
But it is a large city so you must make allowances, there are a lot of things that can go wrong in a city this size.
Well, after waiting for an hour I got to meet a doctor. He stuck his nose out a double door and called three names. So off we went, we were shown to a room where I was asked to sit down, the other two were moved in as well. I was next to the door and then they closed the drapes. The doctor poked my ankle a bit and because I didn't hurt in the places he wanted me to hurt in I had only sprained my ankle and they didn't need to take any x-rays. The doctor basically told me to just keep on with the painkillers and icepacks and also gave me a tubesock and to keep my foot elevated. And that I could then just go. I didn't even need to pay for this, for any of it. Everything free. Cool!!!

We then took a cab home and when we came here we were both so wound up that we just sat down before the television and watched Alien vs. Predator. Ok, movie but rather stupid at times. No more so than any other alien movie though so not too bad.

Well am going to bed now, to keep my foot elevated and no shopping tomorrow. I'll see about Sunday though. If everything else fails I'll just get some crutches, hehehehe.

Rotten exam table

Bugger all, I got my exam table yesterday and it is not pretty. I will have to take four exams, which means two in Gaelic, ooo je, I can just hear people cheering "who's stupid enough to study Gaelic anyway". My first exam I get as a birthday preasant, on the 24th of May I get Celtic Civilisation and right the day after my first Gaelic examn. Then, not until the 2nd of June do I have my History Medieval Level 2 exam and the day after that my second Gaelic exam. So I will not be able to come home until the 5th of June, just hoping that I can get a flight home then.
Gaaaaaaaa, sometimes I just wish to kick someone. Árdís is lucky she finishes before the end of May, she always does this, last year as well. And then I will be going home to work. But I am actually looking forward to that. I know... "what's got into her now", "well, just momentary insanity and want I also want a change of scenery".

Nothing

I have nothing to say really. I am very boring now. I want to say something funny, but the only thing that I can think of is not funny at all.
Two blondes walked into a building. ...
You would have thought at least one of them would have noticed!
You see! Nothing funny at all.
But today is my friend Lauras birthday and I am still trying to get in touch with her and find a time to meet up with her. She is busy, I am busy, everyone is busy right now. Everyone is trying to write their essays before going home for Easter and get ahead in their studies so no break for those that just want to have fun with their friends.
I am now going to laze away the evening before I go to bed to wake up for another wonderful day in school.

Can't wait until tomorrows conversation class in Gaelic, we are going to be talking Computers ... in Gaelic naturally, so basicall it's going to be Coimputaireachd everywere. Which reminds me I have to cur mo pháiper tron an cló-bhualadair so that I can hand it in tomorrow.

Þorrablót

Went to a Þorrablót yesterday and managed to come back home alive. It was quite fun and the food was good (although some would not agree) and even I agree with some of it. The problem for me was that they served traditional súrmat not just þorramat so the sviðasulta was sour and I really didn't like that. But the rófustappa and sviðakjammar were very good as well as the flatkökur and hangikjöt. I didn't have much to drink of the spirit variety. I only had one glass of red wine, two of Bacardi breezer Orange and two shot glasses of Brennivín and then I just stuck with the Coke so I am good. I took a few pictures but not very many, I'll have to see how they turned out before I put them on the web. There was also traditional singing and fun stuff and even dancing and it was really very fun. But alas then the evening had to come to an end for us and me and Árdís went home in the last train leaving for Glasgow. Arrived in Glasgow about twenty minutes past twelve and then we had to wait for nearly an hour for a taxi, because there were so many waiting and few taxis.

I might head into town to day, just because I can't be bothered to do anything really productive today and I need some lunch and I don't have anything edible in the house.

Weathered out

It snowed today in Glasgow, started at least around one o'clock today and went on through the day. When I look out the window now, the cars have a white sheen covering them. This is quite amusing since I just saw news from home where they said a heat record for February had been broken at Kirkjubæjarklaustri. The previous record (and I don't know since when) was 9.9°c and today it was 13.5°c. And here I was shivering my ass off in barely 2°c. Brrrrrrr.
And since I am still sick I will only be going in for the most pressing matters tomorro. Three lectures in stead of five, I just know that I won't be able to stand being in Uni tomorrow for so long without a break.

I am still sick, but I hope I will be getting better soon. I haven't had much of a fever, but who knows what will come up next. I just hope I won't have to battle bronchitis right now, when I really have to focus on my schoolwork. Hope for the best.

Ballet, what can I say

Well, the end was the best part. As in, "Yeesssss, it's finally over!" Ok, I must come completely clear on this, I don't regret going ... but I would regret going again. Ballet is not for me. The costumes and the music was great, the ballet was probably great as well, but I must say ... I have never seen a more GAY Prince Charming. And there was definitely some padding going on in strange places, that almost bordered on the obscene. The tights were definitely that and were riding well up the backside of this representation of the man of every woman's 'NIGHTMARE'! But other than that it was fun. Afterwards we went to J.D. Wetherspoons and had some late dinner and it was just about the best chicken salad I have ever had. Recomend that place. And now I am finally home in my soon to be warm room and I can go being sick again. I wasn't that bad today, and just knocked down some painkillers before I went out tonight so it wasn't so bad as all that. I just heard everything in mono, no stero sound getting through to me tonight. Hope I will be getting over this flu-thingy soon.

News from afar

Yep, I'm not really here at the moment, or at least my mind is playing tricks on me. I have a bit of a fever so I am not completely responsible for what is written here.
I finally got news from my friend in India, she has been gone a month and hasn't contacted anyone until now. But she is having fun and getting used to travel in the Indian traffic. I kind of envy her, because I really want to go to India one day. But right now I am focusing on working on some essays. I have been talking about working on my essays for ages but now I have actually started. Jeiii, good for me.
Hopefully I will be ok tomorrow, since I am going to the Ballet with Árdísi. Should be fun, nothing better than to see some bouncing boys hopping about in very tight tights to cheer you up when you are feeling poorly. So if anyone hears someone whistling in the audience - it might very well be me.

Desperate housewives

OOOh, a lot is going on in Desperate housewives this week. Árdís and I were just watching the latest and it left such a cliffhanger that we are dying for the next episode to come. How are we supposed to wait a week, but also we refuse to read up on the series. No way, we are going to prevail until the end.
The good news is that our friends and family are going to get the pleasure of being able to watch the Desperate housewives back home soon. Ríkissjónvarpið has anounced that they will air the series at their channel. The only uncertainty in this good news is that I have no idea when that will be. Kind of thinking that it might be around Easter.
Until then and until next week, we will be waiting with bated breath for the next installment into the mystery of Visteria Lane. Thankfully, Joey will help us wait until then. His series start this Sunday, víhí.

I'm coming home but not quite yet

I have just booked my flight home for Easter. I will arrive in Keflavik somwhere after noon on 18th of March and have wonderful 3 weeks and 2 days home until I have to return back to Glasgow.

On þí oðer hand, bekos æ haf tú, æ haf desæded tú kríeit a njú langvits and kol it englíska, vits is ínglis vritten in æslandik, há dú jú læk it. Meibí æ vill vræt mor englísku in þe koming deis. Sí jú leiter and teik it ísí.

The importance of being Ernest

and I am in earnest when I say that I enjoyed myself tonight. Árdís dragged me willingly to the Gilmorehill Theatre where some students from University of Glasgow were performing the last show of The Importance of Being Ernest by Oscar Wilde. It was fabulous and I must say that the actor who played Algie ... really captured my heart with his rougish ways. Truly talented aspiring actors.
Next we will be going to see the Tempest. I know that it is never nice to go alone to these sort of things and since Árdís wants to go I want to go as well. I think I have just put my finger on my philosophy about theater. I don't like going to theaters but when am an at a theater I like it.
On another subject, it is just short of six weeks until I come home for Easter, lots to do until then. Have to work on my presentation for tuesday, tomorrow. Thankfully much is already finished.

Lunch at mom's ... just not mine

I met my friend, Lewis, today for lunch. We went to Whistler's Mother Café, and those who have seen the Mr. Bean; The Movie know why I find that funny. And those that know about the time I saw the movie with my mom and my brother, also know why I actually find this hilarious.
But it was a very nice place, with a very nice selection of paninis and ciabattas, nachos and sandwiches. Afterwards I went into the citycenter just to pass some time before going back home.
And to night is the fith episode of Desperate housewifes so me and Árdís are going to plant ourselfs in front of the television and watch it. We ordered pizza and gulped that down over some Reality TV (hardly) and are now just waiting for the clock to strike ten.

A new family member

My cousin María Rós just had a tiny baby girl. Although her grandmother says she looks like a tiny sumo wrestler. I don't agree, she looks quite tiny. With very black hair.
Congratulation Baldur og Ásthildur with your granddaughter and congratulations María and Haraldur with your new baby girl.
Welcome to the world little cousin.
Look forward to seeing you when I come home.

Burns Night and a wee dram

Gie 's a wee haggis, lad?
In celebration of the birthday of Robert Burns, Scotlands national bard, we went to a Burns night on the 25th. The History Society of the University of Glasgow was hosting the party at the aptly named bar on Woodlands Road, Uisge Beatha (Gaelic = whiskey). There weren't very many that came but it was nice and fun. We got our haggis, neeps and tatties (which is basically: slátur, rófur og kartöflur). Everything was quite nice and it tasted very differently from the Icelandic haggis / slátur, much more spicy. But I do know where you can get a very Icelandic haggis in Glasgow. But of course I couldn't end the night without having a wee dram of whiskey. And the Uisge Beatha's speciality is naturally whiskey. This is a place I definitely need to bring my friend Gumma to sometime when he comes next to Glasgow. On the other hand I shouldn't, as he would probably take up permanent residence there. We like our whiskeys you see. But my favorite is Glengonye 10 years old, that's a drink for me. Very smooth.

It really happened ... again

Oooh, it's still snowing now, and now it shows. I even took pictures. I would never have beliefed it otherwise. See not even I belief that it is snowing. Ooooh, this sooo reminds me of home. I like it. But I don't think I should be voicing my opinions here, might make me a social outcast.
Anyway, check the photos if you still don't belief me.

It really happened ... honest

It snowed in Glasgow, I witnessed it. It was mostly sleet at the beginning but then you got to see these really huge snowflakes. That only means snow. But unfortunately since everything was wet from the previous rain we had been having, none of the snowflakes would cooperate with making a white pile of snow on the streets.
The taxi driver I had taken home from the store told me he was expecting snow to begin falling any minute, but I didn't beliefe him. But as soon as I came up the stairs and entered the kitchen I saw the snow from the window. Brrrrr, now I just want to crawl under my covers and come back out in the summer.

Ljóska dagsins huh...

My adventure of the day!
You will never beliefe what happened to me just now. I got locked outside my flat. My friend Árdís came by to borrow some stuff from me that she needed for her essay and because the doorbell isn't working I had to run downstairs to let her in. And we stayed downstairs chatting for a wee bit, because she was going out again, to do a few errands. So when she left, and I wanted to go back into my warm room, the door to the flat was closed and locked. Nooooooo!
I knew that Dee had gone off to work, because he said goodbye to me as he walked out the door this afternoon. Emily and Ruth I had no idea where they were so my only hope left was Lisa, but no matter how I knocked on the door no one answered. I knew she hadn't gone out while I was downstairs so I tried flat D if there was anyone of them there. There wasn't but this really helpful girl phoned her up and she was still ensconed in her room with her cousin (and from the noises I hear coming from her room are playing computer games) anyway, she finally opened the door and let me in. She was really sorry she had locked me out, but I was just thankful I got inside again. Now I can continue not studying for my final exam and everything is as it should be again.

nr. 2 down

Second exam was this morning and went ok. Won't go farther than that because the first question was very unfair and I think everyone of us felt that way. Most of the people I know, answered it last trying to think of something to write. Baaaaad exam! What was the exam about; Celtic Civilisation or basically Celtic History. And what is the Celtic history you might ask, well it goes something like this. Wales was screwed, Ireland was screwed over and Scotland was already fucked up. Unfortunately you can't give such short direct answeres during an exam so I had to exercise my penmanship a bit in the exam.
Now, I have six whole days before my next and last exam of this term, so I took the day off and went to do some shopping, which turned out to be more of a window shopping though. Came home eventually and had the nices shower I have had in a long while, not that I haven't taken a shower for a long time but this one was just ssooooooo nice.
